Frank Martin has a few rules that he follows to the letter. Number one is never change the deal. Number two is no names. Number three is never open the package. Number four is never make a promise you can't keep. Frank is what is called a transporter in the world of the underground. The criminal element likes Frank’s rules and that is why he is the best at what he does.
As circumstances go Frank breaks rule number three and his world is turned upside down. Who better to play the role of a professional driver than Jason Statham? Statham brings validity to the role because of his martial-arts background. The action is non-stop and because he does his own stunt work the scenes are genuine. Without Jason Statham the movie would have been another average action flick.
The Transporter has Luc Besson stamped all over it. Besson’s script is predictable and that is why the Transporter franchise is so successful. It is certainly agreed he has written and directed better movies than The Transporter. The fact is no one seems to remember what they are because the initial Transporter movie was distinctly unique.
I would consider this film the one that made Jason Statham an action star. It was a pivotal movie for his career and he never looked back. I often wonder if he was never cast for The Transporter would he be the star he is today. Watch the film and let me know what you think.
