The Jasper Bears picked up two victories in provincial peewee baseball action on July 9 in St. Albert. Jasper downed the St. Paul Storm 17-12 and the St. Albert Cardinals 18-6. Sunday’s action was cancelled due to rain.Â

Josh Howes, Jadon Brown and Bryce Smith pitched for Jasper in game one. Kelan Polard blasted a home run over the left field fence to highlight the Bears’ attack. Polard also chipped in with an RBI single in the first inning for a two-for-two performance at the plate. Cole Borrow added a double and a single in two trips to the batter’s box. Everett Deltz picked up an extra base hit for Jasper and a double in the third inning.
Dylan Dekker tossed three scoreless innings as the Bears defeated the host Cardinals 18-6 in game two. Cole Borrow and Donovan Fawcett also pitched for Jasper. James Vallier and Deltz led the Bears’ offense with inside the park home runs. Smith belted a triple for Jasper while Polard added a double. Deltz and Polard were two-for-two at the plate.
Dexter Fawcett, Elvis Gorontzy-Slack, Baden Koss and Duncan McLeod rounded out the Jasper lineup for both wins. The Bears will travel to north Edmonton for round two of the provincial playoffs on July 16-17.
