Bipedal animals support proposed bike trial

Dear Editor,

Cycling on any roadway produces anxiety in bipedal animals as we worry about getting clipped by a car, bus or garbage truck. In Jasper the combination of crumbling pavement, spectacular scenery, bears and elk grazing in the ditches creates a lethal cocktail for drivers who are distracted while trying to photograph with one hand, drive with the other, while trying to watch the road ahead.

A safe, separate multi-user path for cyclists, skaters, skiers, walkers, and wheelchair users will provide the opportunity for people of all ages to enjoy physical activity in a secure, peaceful environment. We bipedal animals vote in favour of a dedicated animal corridor for our healthy, non-polluting activities.

Quadruped animals like bears and elk have no trouble navigating the cart paths at the golf course and are pretty steady on the sheer rock faces of mountains so presumably they would be able to walk across a paved bike path. At least they won’t be killed by anyone on a bike or on cross-country skis.
