7 more days in the ā€˜hell hole’

Jail is as unsavory as it’s depicted in the media, according to Montreal native Thomas Chaison who landed there after a stint of mischief in Jasper.
ā€œIt’s like a hell hole here. It’s dirty, it’s diseased, it stinks. It’s just like you see on TV,ā€ he said, appearing by CCTV.
Chaison was sentenced to 30 days in jail, receiving credit for 21 days already served, and fined $5,013.16 for damaging Smitty’s restaurant, destroying a phone in the RCMP detachment and travelling on a CN sulfur train.
Despite living in Alberta for only fourth months, Chaison is accumulating many criminal offences, said Judge D.C. Norheim. ā€œIf you get into any more trouble, there is a good likelihood that you will be spending more time in the [jail] you are in now.ā€

Love pays the price

Spray painting words on a rock just west of the Highway 16 and 93 junction landed Roxann Beaton with a $400 fine.
Two hundred dollars of that fine will go toward removing the spray paint, which reads ā€œNick [heart shape] Roxyā€. Norheim described the vandalism as ā€œsomeone trying to bring the junk we see in the city to a national park.ā€

Without wheels and behind bars

Chad Wilson received 14 days in jail for driving while disqualified in April.
Wilson received a reduced sentence because his guilty plea in the early stages of the charge indicated that he wanted to deal with matters quickly, said Norheim.
