Sandy Robinson, Jean Robinson, Jeanne Robinson, Dorothy Peterson, Betty Sherriff, Mary Graham, Mary Hilworth and Arvon Hilworth will receive recognition and have their pictures added to the photos of other honoured members on the club’s wall.

“We’re hoping that every year new members will be added,” she said.

The awards banquet has been on hiatus, and is set for a comeback this year. And what a year it’s been for the club so far.

Membership has jumped to almost 60 from last year’s 36, adding four more each of ladies and mixed teams, making it a grand total of six and eight teams, respectively.

The club has worked hard to recruit members and promote curling, said Chorley, currently serving her first year as club president.

“Anyone can learn how to curl. We taught more people this year than I ever have before.” The introductory nights in November were a hit and saw 165 people, of which 15 to 20 stayed on with the club. The after-school program also has 24 juniors.

The club also went viral and engaged in social media like Twitter and Facebook, which has aided its popularity.

The Hot Shots skills competition during Jasper in January always had to be cancelled, but this year it went ahead with 16 competitors. Rosanne Burke took home top prize.

The April 5 mixed bonspiel is full and the March 15 ladies bonspiel is almost full, said Chorley.

The men’s bonspiel, during the last weekend in January, had eight teams, with the team of Richard Bergen, Adam Robb, Des Burke, Terry Johnson and alternate Rob Scott taking the title.

All this leads to an optimistic outlook for the curling club’s 90th anniversary next year.

“Collective efforts keep it going,” said Chorley.
