Donning high heels, false lashes and all things glitter, a team of drag queens rounded the bases at Centennial Field, Aug. 25, for the 10th annual Emily Morgan Celebration Softball Tourney.
The event pitted drag queens against other softball players in a fun game that included elaborate costumes and frying pans as bats.
All of the proceeds from the tournament will go to the Emily Morgan Foundation, a fund that provides monetary gifts to families whose lives are financially impacted by their children with serious illnesses or health issues.
After the tournament, the players made their way to the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion for a silent auction and disco themed party featuring a drag show.
At the age of two, Morgan began to suffer from repeated bouts of pneumonia. Finally, when she was six years old, doctors discovered that Morgan had cystic fibrosis.
In February 2002, at the age of nine, she underwent a double-lung transplant at Toronto Sick Kids Hospital. The operation was a success and it appeared she would make a full recovery. However, on Nov. 4, 2006, Morgan鈥檚 life came to an end at the tender age of 14.
In memory of her vibrant life, Morgan鈥檚 uncle Mychol Ormandy organized the annual softball tournament.
Ormandy said while the official amount raised hasn鈥檛 be tallied yet, he estimated more than $1,500 was raised.
鈥淚t was amazing鈥攖he ball game, the party鈥攁ll of it,鈥� Ormandy said. 鈥淚鈥檓 so grateful for my friends and the community that came together to show this overwhelming amount of love and support.鈥�
