Mountains, beaches and crystal clear water–picture yourself relaxing and soaking it all in. Whether you’re looking for an active adventure or a relaxing weekend, there is no shortage of opportunities to get your water fix in Jasper National Park. From paddling, swimming, camping, hiking or soaking in the Miette Hot Springs, Jasper offers something for everyone.
Parks Canada is committed to connecting Canadians with nature and providing exceptional and meaningful experiences. Jasper’s trail network offers plenty of opportunities to visit rivers, lakes and waterfalls in the area. Enjoy spectacular water views or take a dip to cool off after a grueling hike in the Rocky Mountains. Pyramid Trail starts in town and leads to Patricia Lake and Pyramid Lake. If you don’t have transportation, this is your connection to the Pyramid Bench trail system. Moab Lake is a popular local fishing spot, and only a short hike from the parking lot. Alternatively, visit Moose Lake in the Maligne Lake area or explore scenic turquoise and green lakes on the Valley of the Five Lakes trail.
If you’re up for an adventure, pack your bags and get ready for a weekend of listening to the call of loons and waves lap up on the shore outside your tent. Maligne Lake, Honeymoon Lake, Snaring River and Whirlpool Group Camping are excellent options for camping on the water. Whether you’re seeking a canoe camping experience at Maligne Lake or a rustic riverside campsite at Whirlpool, these campgrounds offer the perfect weekend getaway.
Kayaking and canoeing are great ways to explore Jasper on the water. Regardless of your fitness level, you can connect with nature with ease while paddling our beautiful lakes. Paddle along the shore and keep an eye out for wildlife. Lake Edith and Annette are easy paddles while Pyramid, Patricia and Medicine Lakes are slightly more difficult.
If you want to test your balance and core strength, try stand-up paddleboarding. Rise early with the sun and try yoga on a paddleboard or take the whole family out to explore along the shoreline of Lake Edith.
After a day of exploring the park, head to one of Jasper’s beaches to relax and dig your toes into the sand. Lake Annette is a favourite for locals and visitors alike, and offers a day-use area with picnic tables, fire rings with grills, a playground, and a field perfect for flying a kite. Situated across the Athabasca River from town, Lake Annette and Lake Edith are both accessible by hiking or biking on Trail 13 (Bighorn Alley), or Trail 14 and 18 (Woodpecker and Red Squirrel).
