May 8, 1945. It’s V.E. Day, and as peace is declared across Europe, London celebrates the victorious end to a long and costly war.

Confined to Buckingham Palace, both Princess Elizabeth and her 15-year-old sister Margaret peer out longingly at the crowds enjoying the biggest party London has ever seen.

Determined to do whatever it takes to join the revelry, the sisters beg their parents to join. Eventually the King relents, but with one stipulation—Elizabeth must report back on the people’s feelings towards him and the speech he is preparing to deliver at midnight. All of this, of course, is against the Queen’s wishes.

Going incognito, an army officer accompanies each girl and they are given a strict curfew of 1 a.m.

Unimpressed with the planned itinerary, Margaret is the first to ditch her escort followed by Elizabeth.

Margaret quickly meets a naval officer who thinks she is just an ordinary girl. During their epic night out he takes her into a world of nightclubs, gambling, spiked drinks and brothels.

While Margaret is out gallivanting, Elizabeth meets an airman and the duo have their own adventures while trying to catch up with Margaret. Their adventures take them well beyond the 1 a.m. deadline and into the wee hours of the following morning.

To find out how it all ends, catch the film at the Chaba Theatre March 10 at 7 p.m.
