Baby Ramona made her debut Jan. 8 at 5:55 a.m., weighing seven pounds, 12 ounces and measuring almost 22 inches.
This is the couple’s first child. “She’s so tiny and [Rushton’s] really tall and his hands are big ... so he’s very cautious,” admires Hampel.
Upon the couple’s hospital admission, they learned that Ramona’s arrival was especially notable.
“We were the first from the Hinton, Edson, Jasper area.” A baby from Grande Cache was born earlier, but aside from that, nurses said it was a slow week.
“We must have kick-started something, too, because then two other ladies came in that same day to deliver,” she laughs.
The name Rose has a long-standing history in the family, said Hampel. Kenna is a tribute to her father, Kenneth, who passed away six months ago. “It means born of fire,” she said.
Mom, dad and baby are enjoying their first month together as a family.
“It’s very exciting,” said Hampel.
