Alpine club AGM includes Dana Ruddy

Jasper/Hinton’s Alpine Club of Canada will be hosting its annual general meeting at the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion, May 13, at 7 p.m.
The meeting is open to everyone and will be an opportunity for folks to catch up on what the club has been up to in the past year and hear first hand from Dana Ruddy about surviving a class-three avalanche in the Tonquin Valley in February.
Membership in the Alpine Club of Canada is open to everyone, regardless of their level of mountain experience or their country of residence. Membership fees are annual and are valid for one year from the month of purchase.
Cycling association to host AGM
The Jasper Park Cycling Association (JPCA) will be hosting its annual general meeting May 18 at the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion at 6 p.m.Â
The JPCA currently has nine board members, but is looking to add a few more people this year to help with organizing events, fundraising and treasury duties.
The meeting will also discuss the municipality’s May 17 vote on whether or not to release land to JPCA to build a mountain bike park, which could be built in the woods directly across from Mount Robson Inn.
JPCA said in a press release that should people vote in favour of the proposed location then the project will be able to move forward with funding and construction plans.
Following the meeting there will be a barbeque and a bike polo tournament. The meeting will also double as a fundraiser — jerseys and socks will be for sale with all funds going back to the association.

Transgender and pride flag to be hoisted
For the first time ever the transgender flag will be flown in Jasper alongside the pride flag, May 17.
OUT Jasper and the Jasper Pride Festival Society have organized the flag raising ceremony to coincide with the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia.
The day aims to coordinate international events that raise awareness about LGBT rights.
The ceremony will begin at 12 p.m. just outside the Jasper Emergency Services building. Coun. Helen Kelleher-Empey will be speaking on behalf of the municipality and Jasper Park Chamber of Commerce general manager Patti Pavlov will also be speaking.
Muni to host info night
Join the municipality and Jasper National Park staff for a public information night, May 18.
The evening’s lectures will include an update on the mountain pine beetle situation in JNP, the next steps on how to deal with the beetle problem, and a discussion about Jasper’s emergency preparedness.
There will also be information regarding the verbenone pouch program that has been put in place to help residents protect pine trees on their property. The pouch tricks the mountain pine beetle into thinking the tree has already been colonized so they move on and find another host.
The meeting will be held at the Jasper Activity Centre's multipurpose hall at 7 p.m.
