Christmas tree disposal service

Muppet theatre workshop
Calling all Muppet fans.
Habitat for the Arts in collaboration with Jennifer Ann Hoffele is hosting an eight-week Muppet theatre workshop beginning Jan. 13.
The after school program is designed to nurture young and creative minds and allow them to write, design and craft their own Muppet stories.
An open house will be held on Jan. 12 so kids and parents can meet Hoffele and get a sneak peek at the Muppet theatre. It will also be the last chance to register or sign up to volunteer.
The open house will be held at the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion art room from 5 to 8 p.m. The eight-week program costs $200.

Dam construction continues
Trail users can expect to see closure signs removed from the trails near Cabin Lake by late January or early February, as construction wraps up on the Cabin Lake Dam.
Cabin Lake provides water for fire protection, as well as a back-up supply of potable water for the Jasper townsite. Last year, as part of a $211 million funding announcement, the Conservative government provided $1.6 million toward the rehabilitation of the Cabin Lake Dam in order for it to meet dam safety review requirements.
To ensure that it meets safety review requirements, the downstream slope of the dam is being flattened and the toe of the dam will be extended out as much as five metres in certain areas, wrote Steve Young, Jasper National Park communications officer, in an email. The existing spillway has been replaced with a new, higher capacity structure that will better serve the dam in all conditions.
Construction began in late August and was expected to wrap up in December.
Since August, a number of trails have been closed to ensure the safety of the public. Included in that closure is the Cabin Lake Fire Road (Trail 8e) and Trail 3 from its junction with 3g to its junction with 8b, and the entirety of Trail 3g.
Recreational use of Cabin Lake continues to be restricted during construction and there is no public access to the east side of the lake.
