Robin Campbell accepts new job

Former West Yellowhead MLA Robin Campbell is the new president of the Coal Association of Canada.

Campbell represented West Yellowhead in the Alberta legislature from 2008 until 2015 and served as the finance minister under Jim Prentice’s short-lived PC government.

Campbell is also the province’s former minister of the Environment and Sustainable Resource Development. He faces an uphill battle in his new job as worldwide demand for coal stagnates and prices remain low.

Premier Rachel Notley hasn’t made his job any easier, either, after recently announcing her government will move toward phasing out the use of coal-generated electricity in Alberta.

Library to host writing workshop

The Jasper Municipal Library is hosting a free writing workshop to celebrate national novel writing month, Nov. 24.

The workshop will be led by Jasper author Santina Cross and will focus on discovering and developing each person’s unique voice.

The workshop starts at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets now on sale for Diva-licious

Tickets for Diva-Licious are now on sale for the Nov. 28 event.

The black and white affair is a fundraiser for the Jasper Pride Festival Society (JPFS) and includes a drag show, dance music and a silent auction.

The event will be held at the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the drag show starts at 9:30 p.m.

Tickets for the event can be bought for $15 through the organization’s website, www.jasperpride.ca. Tickets are $10 for members of the pride festival society.
