Parks to improve sightlines along Icefields Parkway
Expect delays along two sections of the Icefields Parkway over the next two months as Parks Canada removes trees and brush encroaching on the highway.
The work will improve sightlines for both drivers and animals and also improve road drainage and protect the highway from root damage.
Work will occur seven days a week from 7 a.m until 7 p.m. and is expected to last until March 31.
Speed reductions will be in affect in work zones, bringing travellers down to 60 km/hr, and traffic control personnel will be onsite. Drivers should also expect the occasional 20-minute delay.
Work will begin at Highway 93 and the Trans-Canada Highway in Banff National Park and move northward on one side of the highway for 70 km (Mistaya Canyon) before crossing over and continuing southward down the opposite side of the highway.
Work will also occur from kilometre 185, north of Moon Lake, to kilometre 220 near the Valley of the Five Lakes.
