‘It takes a village to raise a child’

Dear Editor, I think nothing speaks more to the heart of a community than the way they treat their children. As the old proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.

Dear Editor,

I think nothing speaks more to the heart of a community than the way they treat their children.

As the old proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.”

I was the proud witness of this last week as parent volunteers and I took the Wild Roots Playschool group into the community of Jasper to tour and learn about “our neighbourhood”.

We were welcomed with open arms into the Jasper Fire Hall and Ambulance bays to check out the trucks that help save lives in our community. We toured the elusive back rooms of the Post Office, where children were amazed to see what was on the other side of their mailboxes. We explored the Wildlife Museum at the Whistler’s Inn and smelled beautiful flowers at Elysion Florals.

The children were thrilled to try their hand at making pizzas at Jasper Pizza Place, all promising to work there when they grow up! The Other Paw Bakery offered the children a chance to bake (and eat!) their own cookie, painted with marshmallows, and check out what happens behind the scenes for the bakers. The Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives was our last stop and the children enjoyed checking out their favourite pieces on display, hiding in the bear cave, and planting a seed in the garden out front.

The dedication to our children from our community is something for every Jasperite to celebrate. The children from Wild Roots Playschool will not soon forgot their visits around town and we would like to say a huge thank you to all of those who make up the village helping to raise the children of Jasper.
