Tired of the holiday season already? Got something you need to get off your chest? Maybe you just want to test your strength in an arm wrestle with a friendly foe?
If this is you, dont worry, the Jasper Legion totally gets itthats why its hosting Festivus, the annual parody holiday made famous by the American sitcom Seinfeld.
The secular holiday, celebrated annually on Dec. 23, pokes fun at the commercialization of the holiday season through some rather peculiar traditions, including, of course, the unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, instead of a tree.
Not to be outdone by Christmas, Festivus just wouldnt be Festivus without a delicious meatloaf dinner and some holiday miracles, including the time-honoured tradition of publicly airing grievances and competing in feats of strength.
Its just a pile of fun and theres no real formality to any of it, said Ken Kuzminski, president of the legion, with a chuckle.
Its all tongue and cheek.
Following the tradition, the legion fully intends to allow people to air their grievances on stage and facilitate some armwrestling matches, as well.
Well have a mic set up so people can go up and if they have anything to say they can air their grievances and for the rest of the year they have to hold their peace, said Kuzminski.
In the past weve had armwrestling and I think they even tried leg wrestling.
This is the third year the legion has hosted the event, which is free of charge and open to all ages.
For those interested in eating, dinner starts at 6 p.m. and costs $10.
