With only three months to go before the floats hit the road and the fireworks pop, preparations are already well on their way for Jasper’s Canada Day celebrations.
The Canada Day Committee has already booked a few marching bands for the parade, nailed down the fireworks technician, secured town council for the annual pancake breakfast and planned a whole whack of kids activities for the afternoon.
“We’re in pretty good shape,” said Pattie Pavlov. “But we want people to start thinking Canada Day!”
This year’s theme is Celebrating Diversity, so Pavlov encourages people from all corners of the community to start thinking about how they can showcase Jasper’s diversity in the parade.
“Jasper’s a melting pot if there ever was one and I would love for that to be reflected in the parade,” said Pavlov.
As well as floats and people for the parade, Pavlov said the committee is also looking for local musicians to come forward to provide entertainment at Centennial Park that evening. She said with music starting at 6 p.m., there are a few slots to fill before the headliner takes the stage.
This year’s main event will be a performance by Canadian accapella group, Hoja. Some Jasperites might remember the group from their performance at the annual Volunteer Banquet in 2014.
Pavlov said local businesses can expect to receive a letter in their mailboxes in early April, requesting support and participation in the annual celebration.
Anyone interested in lending a hand as a volunteer or providing entertainment during the party in the park is encouraged to contact the Canada Day Committee by emailing Pavlov at [email protected].
