The new trampoline, which is specifically designed for gymnastics use, cost the club $8,000. It took two years to raise the funds needed for the purchase.
Nadia Wassef, head coach of the Jasper Gymnastics Club, is very excited and proud of the new piece of equipment.
“The kids love it,” she declared.
According to the Canadian Olympic Team, the trampoline event requires the athlete to perform two routines with 10 elements each in order to qualify. Every element the athlete performs displays a specific skill and difficulty. Last year in London, during the 2012 Olympic Games, Rosie MacLennan captured the gold medal in the women’s trampoline competition, it was Canada’s only first place finish at the 2012 Olympic Games.
During their demonstration the girls appeared both eager and confident as they performed their warm-up routine.
The Jasper Gymnastics Club is currently practising for their first competition of the year to take place in Edmonton in the next few weeks.
