Jasper in January has a new twist this year, with each of the festival’s three weeks falling under a different theme.

Week one, which begins this weekend, is titled “Adventure Week” and includes opportunities to experience everything from snowshoeing under the stars to competing in a ski challenge at Marmot Basin.

Week two, which kicks off with the annual Chili Cook Off on Jan. 21, is “Appetites Week,” with a number of savoury events taking place over the course of the weekend, including Hops and Scotch, as well as a progressive dinner, which takes participants to multiple restaurants over the course of the evening, and a mixology class at Evil Dave’s Grill.

The final week of the festival, beginning Jan. 28, is “Arts Week.” Over the course of four days, there are opportunities to see a Just for Laugh comedian at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, to paint a portrait with artist John Webster and to peruse local art during the annual Arts on Ice event.

Alongside all of the themed events, Parks Canada has also partnered with Tourism Jasper this year, offering a variety of outdoor events at the new Marmot Meadows Winter Hub.

The activities, which will take place all three weekends, range from learning to track wildlife to hearing First Nations stories about the dark sky while enjoying tea and bannock around the fire.

With numerous events taking place this weekend, we thought we’d take the stress out of itinerary planning by providing our readers with the ultimate guide to Adventure Week.

Take our advice and you’re sure to have a fabulous weekend. Or, ignore our advice and make the weekend your own, creating an equally amazing experience. Either way, we wish you a happy Jasper in January.
