More than 20 staff from Mountain Park Lodges rolled up their sleeves to help clean up the Jasper Discovery Trail at the east end of town, May 10.

The group managed to fill up at least 10 garbage bags and found some rather unusual items, including a time capsule from 2011 containing a note, a drawing, a lock of hair and some leaf rubbings.

We usually do a clean up day of the parking lots every year in June, but with the nice weather we decided to do something more community oriented, said Gillian Thompson, the human resources manager for MPL.

To complete the task the group split up into two teams behind the Lobstick Lodge, which is owned by Mountain Park Lodges. One team focused on cleaning up the trail behind the Cavell

Apartments, while the other team worked their way west cleaning up behind the Jasper Inn towards Pyramid Lake Road.

Janet Cooper, the towns environmental stewardship coordinator, lent the group pickers and vests and the Friends of Jasper also showed up to demonstrate and talk about what its like to volunteer with the Jasper Trail Alliance.
