National Park 51°µÍø: How JNP connects with Canadians

Communication has evolved significantly since the late 18th and early 19th centuries as technology progressed.

NPNCommunication has evolved significantly since the late 18th and early 19th centuries as technology progressed. To communicate to large audiences, we started with newspapers, moved on to radio and television and eventually the Internet and now social media is used as an effective way to reach Canadians where they work, live and play.

Parks Canada, including Jasper National Park, has embraced new media to showcase some of the world’s most beautiful places, while keeping Canadians informed of everything from trail and avalanche conditions to the newest way to book backcountry camping online.

The Jasper section of the Parks Canada website is filled with almost two hundred pages of valuable information and everything is available in both official languages. The site is regularly updated with information on the latest interpretative opportunities, links to guidebooks and brochures, in addition to information that complements national programming such as environmental monitoring and the Jasper National Park Management Plan.

If it has to do with Jasper National Park, it can be found at www.pc.gc.ca/jasper.

Occasionally, Parks Canada will post on its website information from our partners that might be relevant to the public. For example, Parks Canada stays in regular contact with both Alberta511 and DriveBC to share road conditions and construction information. This allows for timely updates to interactive maps allowing travellers to or from Jasper National Park to make decisions.

Jasper National Park launched its social media channels in 2012 and has garnered a loyal following online.

The Jasper Facebook page has more than 15,000 likes. The Twitter following is impressive as well with another 10,000 keeping tabs on the park. Just the last year alone, there has been a 92 per cent growth in Facebook followers and 104 per cent growth in Twitter followers. Feeds are also available in French.

Our social media feeds are the place to go to see and share your favourite photos and memories of Jasper National Park. We encourage you to use Twitter and Facebook and use the #JasperNP hashtag to share your images of this special place we live and play in.

Jasper National Park also shares a large number of fun and informative videos via YouTube. There are almost 6,000 subscribers on the Parks Canada YouTube channel, which contains just under 20 Jasper themed contributions.
