
The Jasper Peewee Bears were a perfect 4-0 to capture the top spot in the Lacombe Minor Baseball Tournament, June 3-5.
The Bears started the tournament strong winning both games in the preliminary round.
In the semi-final the Bears went up against the host team, the Lacombe Dodgers. Dylan Dekker pitched a brilliant one-hitter to advance the team to the championship game.
Kelan Polard also pitched a strong game in the championship final to beat Sylvan Lake and take home the championship title.
Picking up player of the game awards during the tournament were Elvis Gorontzy-Slack, Dekker and Polard.
The Bears used a total of seven pitchers during the tournament. Cole Borrow, Tanner Carlton, Tristan Erb-Beauchamp, Josh Howes, and Jesse Kertesz-Knight took their turn on the mound and pitched solid games, along with Dekker and Polard. Tyler Carlton also had an outstanding tournament at the plate for the Bears all weekend.
The Jasper squad won silver during its home tournament with a 3-1 record a week prior to the Lacombe tournament.
The Bears will travel to Blackfalds for more baseball action June 24-26.
