Taking a 17-1 record into the provincial tier one championship finals did not help the Jasper Peewee Bears clinch the championship title in Clive, Alta., July 22-24.

Jasper dropped a 13-12 nail-biter to the High Prairie Chiefs in the opening game on Friday evening and were eliminated from contention by the St. Paul Storm with a 14-10 win on Saturday morning.

The Bears used pitchers Dylan Dekker, Kelan Polard, Josh Howes, Sebastian Golla and Jadon Brown against the Chiefs. Polard was two-for-two at the plate while Elvis Gorontzy-Slack had two hits in four plate appearances.

Howes, Brown and Bryce Smith pitched for Jasper in game two versus St. Paul. Polard crushed a long dinger over the left field fence and added a single and a double. Gorontzy-Slack also enjoyed a three-for-three outing while Everett Pelz and Dekker were both two-for-three. The loss sent the Bears to the consolation final against the Rocky Sun Devils on Sunday morning.

Polard pitched a brilliant three-hit shutout, striking out a dozen batters en route to a 21-0 victory over Rocky. Every Bear on the roster pounded at least one hit in the lopsided win. Polard slammed his second out-of-the-park homer of the weekend, bringing his season total to nine home runs. Gorontzy-Slack and Dekker were three-for-three while Brown, James Valliere, Cole Borrow and Pelz added two hits a piece for Jasper. Picking up single hits were Howes, Golla, Duncan McLeod, Smith and Baden Koss. The Bears finished their season with 18 wins and three losses.

The host Clive Crushers downed the High Prairie Chiefs 11-1 to win the championship on Sunday evening.
