Dear Editor,
We are visitors to Canada from New Zealand. We were surprised to read the letter from Jack Almond in the July 9 51 regarding Canada’s Parks and particularly the Glacier Skywalk.

Mr. Almond laments the “significant increase in the cost” of both the Parks pass and camping fees suggesting that these will exclude families from enjoying the area. We believe the camping fees to be low at an average cost of $20 per night, in a park that’s very affordable in our experience.

Mr. Almond’s comments about the Glacier Skywalk are very emotive, “hideous,” “monstrosity,” etc. and we can’t help but wonder if he has taken the opportunity to visit the attraction? We did so and came away much better informed about the local terrain and conditions that influence life there. We also learned a great deal about wildlife with actual size exhibits, a fascinating audio experience and interesting and informative displays of plants and their bid to survive in this harsh environment. The details of how the Skywalk began, the design and subsequent construction process were fascinating.

We feel the Skywalk itself is tastefully designed to minimize environmental impact; and what a great way to educate people about this amazing area.
