The warm summer weather offers plenty of chances to get out and explore Jaspers amazing landscapes and its also when the vast majority of Jaspers volunteers hit the ground to improve the parks visitor experience. Parks Canada is committed to connecting Canadians with nature and these opportunities also provide a hands-on experience to help maintain Jaspers ecological integrity.

Parks Canada is continually looking for fun and news way to engage Canadians in their natural and cultural heritage. Heres a quick snapshot of whats coming up this summer:
Caribou Ambassadors are some of Parks Canadas most dedicated volunteers, helping to spread awareness about the parks species at risk in alpine trailhead locations where caribou live. Training is available on Saturday, June 25 from 10:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. and is available for groups and businesses in the Jasper area upon request.

Park stewards are the parks casual volunteer group: you get involved when you want to and with what you want to. The more you volunteer, the more unique volunteer opportunities you can get access to. Some of the basic opportunities include litter picking and weed pulling, but some of the really engaging volunteer opportunities for park stewards include things like bat counting and photographing loons from a safe distance.

For groups, the park has a wide range of lakes and streams, which could use some help. Get a group together and Parks Canada will help organize an outing for a couple hours on Jaspers shorelines. For info about getting involved to clean up other bodies of water, check out shorelinecleanup.ca. For more information about Parks Canada opportunities, call 780-883-0486 or email [email protected].

Stewardship volunteering with partners:

  • The Friends of Jasper are taking volunteering to new heights with the launch of their Trail Tuesdays program on Whistlers summit.
  • The Jasper Trail Alliance hits the trails closer to town on the 5, 15 and 25 of each month.
  • Explore these opportunities by calling the Friends at 780-852-4767 or emailing [email protected]

A shout out:

  • The Jasper Trail Alliance and 25 volunteers from CPAWS Northern Alberta completed some great trail work and bat counting two weeks ago here in Jasper National Park. The next time you walk on trail 2d (Wedding Ridge) be sure to check out the fine results of their efforts.
  • Five park stewards also travelled to the Weeping Wall viewpoint in Banff National Park on June 15 to pick litter and improve some sightlines at the viewpoint parking area. These volunteers were taking part in Banffs annual cleanup day that included the Trans-Canada Highway and other selected areas of the Icefield Parkway.
