I think the writing is on the wall when you see the temperatures and you see the forecast and you see where the snow is right now. Itll be good for this weekend, but we dont anticipate its going to be up to the standard we would want it for May 1, said Brian Rode, vice president of marketing and sales for Marmot.

Rode said typically the mountain would make it until the end of the month, but with the consistently warm temperatures over the past few weeks it just wasnt in the cards for this season.

Having to shut down one week earlier is pretty good, most areas in B.C. closed a few weeks ago so it should be some fun spring skiing.

Overall he said it was a good season, although business wasnt as strong as the company had hoped.

We opened early again in mid-November with just a few runs ... and we had some very good snow early on in the season, said Rode.

Business wasnt as strong as our best years. I think with the weather and the way it was in the city, there just wasnt the same enthusiasm, he said, adding the downturn in the economy may have also played a role.
