A cyclist has been flown to a Calgary hospital after being found lying injured on a road in Kananaskis.

Emergency crews were called to an area west of Sandy Mcnabb at about 3:20 p.m. on May 9 after other cyclists came across the injured person.

A female cyclist was transported by STARS with non-life threatening injuries, Diamond Valley Fire Rescue Chief TJ Moore said.

There was no word on how long the cyclist might have been lying there or what caused the incident.

Moore said the cyclists who found the injured biker had to ride back towards Sandy Mcnabb to get cell service to call 911.

The highway west of Sandy Mcnabb is not open to vehicles due to a seasonal closure, but is well travelled by cyclists at this time of year, Moore said.

The Sandy Mcnabb area is about 25 kilometres west of Diamond Valley.
