1 new COVID-19 recovery in Jasper as Alberta hits 2,397 confirmed cases

There are now only two active cases of COVID-19 in Jasper.

One further recovery has been recorded by Alberta Health Services, bringing the total to five.

And with no new confirmed diagnoses in the municipality since April 12, the total stands at eight. One person has died.

In Alberta, 239 new cases of COVID-19 were reported today (April 17), bringing the total in the province to 2,397. 400 cases are suspected of being community acquired.

There are now 1,124 confirmed recoveries and there have been a total of 50 deaths from COVID-19: 34 in the Calgary zone, eight in the Edmonton zone, seven in the North zone, and one in the Central zone.

To date, 270 cases have been confirmed at continuing care facilities, and 32 residents at these facilities have died.

Alberta Health Services announced today it had taken over day-to-day operations of the Manoir du Lac continuing care facility in McLennan.

To date, 26 of the 62 residents and 11 of the 70 staff at the continuing care facility have tested positive for COVID-19, and there have been five COVID-related resident deaths.

Effective immediately, residents at Manoir du Lac will undergo daily screenings, those displaying new respiratory symptoms will be isolated in their room and staff caring for them will be wearing all recommended personal protective equipment - measures that are standard practice at all AHS continuing care facilities in Alberta.

In Jasper, no cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at Evergreens Foundation facilities.

Expanded testing

  • Alberta Health is working with employers and Alberta Health Services to expand testing to asymptomatic residents and staff in continuing care facilities and outbreak sites in the coming days. All workers from all companies at outbreak sites will be offered this opportunity.
