Alcohol consumption, mischief results in fine
Grande Cache resident Chad Moffat received a total of $804 in fines for causing mischief at Whistlers Inn on Jan. 28. Police were called after Moffat, who had been consuming alcohol, returned several times after being asked to leave the establishment.
At the time of this incident, Moffat was on probation and under court order not to consume alcohol.
Prohibited driving, non-consumption order violated
A man who works around the Fort McMurray area received a fine of $805 and is prohibited from driving for at least six months after operating a vehicle while suspended from driving.
Matthew Wolfe also violated an order not to consume alcohol. “I do understand my actions and I need to make some changes,” said Wolfe of the April 19 incident.
Fine, driving prohibition for impaired driving
Brian McCleary received a one-year driving prohibition and $1,150 fine for impaired driving. The retired CN worker was pulled over in Hinton by an unmarked police vehicle after a concerned citizen reported that an individual matching McCleary’s physical and vehicle description, may be intoxicated.
McClearly failed the roadside screening device and blew over .08 at the police station.
Hefty fine for expired insurance
Adam Steenbergen was ordered to pay a $2,875 fine or face 45 days in jail for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Though his insurance expired on Jan. 17 and he was pulled over more than a month later on Feb. 21, Steenbergen said his neglect to renew his insurance was an “honest mistake” and he thought his vehicle was insured.
Off leash outing gone to the dogs
A Jasper resident experienced firsthand the repercussions of having his dogs off leash in a national park.
Warren Brown received a $100 fine for having his two dogs off their leashes. “There’s no other place [for dogs] to get exercise at this moment,” he explained, adding he tends to “cheat a bit because of that.”
