The evacuation order is being lifted for Edson and most of Yellowhead County from Marlboro to the Chip Lake area at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 8.

The order has been in place since Friday due to wildfire.

The wildfire risk has been reduced thanks to firefighting efforts and the shift in weather. There is no longer an immediate risk,

However, the order being lifted will only be for some areas in Yellowhead County at this time.

Areas east of Range Road 110 (north of Chip Lake) and east of Range Road 101 (south of Chip Lake) and south of Township Road 560 are still under an evacuation order.

Those who are still evacuated and returning to the area are asked to use the reception centre at the Edson and District Leisure Centre (1021 - 49 Street). The centres in Hinton and Jasper will be closing.

Town and county residents were encouraged to check their utilities on arrival and contact their service provider if they had any concerns.

Services such as grocery services, pharmacies, and gas stations should re-open as soon as possible, but residents need to be prepared for a reduction in service until staff are in place, Yellowhead County added.

Planning is currently underway to ensure the resumption of municipal services such as waste collection and other essential services.

Jaspers reception centre has hosted guests overnight and registered just over 600 evacuees, according to the Municipality of Jasper.

Jasper and Hinton residents were also warned about a potential power outage over the weekend, but officials said Sunday they were not anticipating any immediate power outages.

The wildfire that was threatening the AltaLink substation south of Edson was held the night prior and was not progressing towards the facility, and crews had a good window in the next 24 hours to continue work on protecting the substation from the wildfire.
