First responders from across the province hit the ice in Jasper last weekend for the last tournament of the season.

It was the 22nd annual Fire on Ice and 33 firefighters, police officers, sheriffs, paramedics, and a handful of locals took part.

All skill levels were encouraged to play with the goal being fun for all.

And this was gentlemen's hockey - so no contact or slapshots allowed.

Travis Moorhouse, a retired Jasper firefighter and EMS who now works dispatch, has taken part in Fire on Ice for more than 20 years.

Its just bringing the emergency services together, the brotherhood and sisterhood, he said.

We have so much fun and so many levels of hockey players - some who are skating for the first time and people who play a bit more competitively.

This is a good opportunity if you havent seen someone to catch up, see how things are going and refresh friendships.

Four teams were drafted on Friday night and each played each other on Saturday and Sunday, with no winner except the Green Gate Lodge, a mental health retreat for first responders.

Close to $2,000 was raised for the new Lodge at Fire on Ice thanks to a silent auction.
