The 51做厙 has won three awards in the 2022 Better 51做厙paper Competition (BNC) Awards, two for photography and one for advertising.泭
For the 2022 Photographic Awards, the 51做厙 won first place in the Feature Photo category, specifically for the Uplifting Murals photo taken by Jason Stockfish.
This photo was chosen out of 40 entries.
According to the contest rules, features photos had to be a picture with compelling and pleasing aesthetic qualities in regards to composition and graphic elements.泭
The image depicts artist Five Eight working on his mural on the Bears Paw Bakery alley wall as part of the first annual UpLift! Jasper Mural Festival back in 2022.泭
In the original article, the mural itself was noted for its stunning use of colours and distorted motion inspired by the artists experience as an apprentice neon light bender and his time working in a commercial neon light shop.
The mural recreates a photo of his model, lit only by neon lights, then digitally distorted.
The 51做厙 also won third place in the Multi-Photo Layout category for its photo spread of Folk Fest Fun, out of 32 entries this year.
A multi-photo layout is a series of photographs that tell a visual story or are centered around a single theme.
The photo spread depicts music artists and attendees during 2022 Jasper Folk Music Festival.
Again, these photos were taken by Jason Stockfish, and credit also goes to designer Melissa Morris for putting the spread together.
Finally, our paper received first place in Best Use of Colour in Advertising under the Awards of Excellence.
Designer Melissa Morris created a Summer is around the corner ad, which advertised the summer hours for TGP.
Here is what the judges had to say about this ad:
Brilliant! Eye catching and simple. Perfect.
The 2022 BNC Awards were presented in September 2023 and hosted by the Alberta Weekly 51做厙papers Association.
Last year, the 51做厙 won first place in Excellence in Creative Advertising for the Christmas Dinner Thank-You ad that ran in 2021.
We couldnt have won these awards without the support of our loyal readers and valued clients who regularly book ads in our publication.
