Golfers and local businesses helped raise around $37,000, including $21,000 from an auction, which will go towards supporting victims of trauma and crime.

Jasper Victim Services hosted the 15th annual charity golf tournament, with the help of Jasper Event Management, at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge Golf Course on Sept. 10.

As far as our day went, it was as good as any year that Ive ever organized it or better, said Paul Schmidt, director of the Jasper Victim Services Unit.

Everybody involved seemed to have a great time, and I got lots of positive responses from golfers, and just a big thank-you to all of our supporters in the community of Jasper.

Last year, the tournament raised only $12,000 due to having a more limited auction and not having a shot-gun tournament with everyone starting at once.

The event has helped fund Jasper Victim Services in the past, but this year, money will go to the Jasper Crisis Team, which is expected to launch later this year.

Any funds that Victim Services needs for victims (of crime) will come from that fund, and anything that we need for victims of trauma will come from that fund, he said.

The fund will help support victims by paying for meals, transportation, accommodations and other essentials.

As for the tournament itself, Schmidt reported that 156 golfers plus about 20 guests attended, with the event flowing along without any major breaks or delays.
