UPDATE: Parks Canada plow crews and visitor safety staff continue to work on re-opening the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to Saskatchewan Crossing. However, challenging snow conditions have resulted in the opening being delayed.
The Icefields Parkway is now expected to re-open at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
Parks Canada has closed the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) south of the Jasper townsite from Athabasca Falls to Saskatchewan River Crossing.
The highway is expected to reopen at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
The closure comes amid significant snowfall and will allow Parks Canada staff to safely conduct avalanche control.
Significant snowfall, accompanied by strong winds and blowing and drifting snow, is forecast along this portion of highway.
Between 40 and 60 cm of snow is expected over the course of two storm pulses between today and Tuesday morning.
Check for up-to-date road conditions and status.
