Looking to be active in 2022 while raising money for the Jasper Healthcare Foundation?
If so, Multisportscanada has an event for you. The Jasper Canadian Rockies Half Marathon is taking place on April 23, 2022.
In addition to the 21-kilometre half marathon, there will be a 10-kilometre run, a five-kilometre event and a Family Fun Run.
There will be no shortage of majestic views for those participating, as the route passes several local stunning bodies of water, with the trails along Lac Beauvert, Annette and Mildred lakes featured along the way, before the route circles Edith Lake and heads back to Jasper alongside the Athabasca River.
After the runs have completed, there will be a happy hour and festivities with awards and a draw for prizes.
While the half marathon did not take place last year due to the pandemic, Trevor Soll, owner of Multisportscanada, is optimistic this year鈥檚 event will take place as scheduled.
鈥淭his will be our fifth annual half-marathon, we鈥檒l call it, (and like with our other events) we鈥檙e just looking for a return to normal. The first two years we saw some pretty massive growth. The first year we had about 800 people and the second year was close to 1,000. Years three and four were roughly the same with just over a thousand (participants).鈥�
The half marathon is not the only event Multisportscanada hosts in Jasper.
Additionally, for cross-country skiing enthusiasts, Soll is organizing Jasper Nordicfest on Feb. 27 and 28. The event raises money for the Jasper Museum and takes place in support of Parks Canada鈥檚 creation of trails at the Whirlpool hub and Athabasca Falls area.
鈥淭his will be our third annual (Jasper Nordicfest), even though we had a break last year. The first two years were slow growth, year over year, as it鈥檚 something new, more of a different niche market. Hopefully this year, COVID aside, things will continue to grow, and we鈥檒l have good weather and a great turnout.鈥�
In addition to the half marathon and the Nordicfest, starting in 2014, Multisportscanada began hosting Gran Fondo Jasper, a large cycling event. This year, the Fondo takes place on June 4.
Partnering with Multisportscanada to make everything possible for the Jasper Canadian Rockies Half Marathon are Pursuit, Tourism Jasper, the Municipality of Jasper and Parks Canada.
