UPDATE: Highway 16 has reopened east of Jasper.
A multi-vehicle collision closed Highway 16, with traffic being diverted, and resulted in two seriously injured persons.
On July 6 at 12:20 p.m., Jasper RCMP received a 911 call of a multi-vehicle collision on Highway 16, near the Jasper Airport within Jasper National Park.
According to the police's initial investigation, vehicles heading eastbound had slowed for wildlife crossing the highway and a serious collision occurred involving a total of four vehicles.
This collision resulted in two seriously injured persons, and STARS Air Ambulance was deployed.
Jasper RCMP attended the scene and the RCMP Collision Analyst will assist with the investigation.
Highway 16 was closed for six hours and has since reopened.
Police say further updates will be provided when more information becomes available.
