OUT in style
The four contestants in the Straight to Diva competition were unveiled, Friday night, by Mychol Ormandy, the program coordinator for OUT Jasper. The men will be transformed from their scruffy selves into fashionable ladies, June 17, in the event that will see them lip sync a song of their choosing, while dancing in high heels and fancy dresses.
Finger food
A group of Jasperites young and old gathered at Lake Annette for an opportunity to play with their food, May 17, as the Association Canadienne-Française de l’Alberta hosted a lobster boil. The evening elicited plenty of laughter as the cracking of shells sprayed lobster juice from one end of the picnic table to the next. To learn more about the association and its events, visit .
Time for art
The beginning of the May long weekend was prime time for the Jasper Artists Guild to officially open its summer home beside Jasper Rock and Jade.
The opening coincided with Mountain Air’s 30th anniversary party, so the Clock Tower Mall was buzzing with people.
Numerous works are on display in the Clock Tower Gallery, including those of new member Rico (Satoko) Naito, who is proudly showing her art with JAG for the first time.
“We are amazed with the turnout,” said JAG member Claude Boocock. She also noted that the new location is attracting traffic from many different types of visitors.
High-flying and fancy
Mountain Air celebrated 30 years of hooting with the owls and soaring with the eagles at its anniversary party on May 17, which included a performance by musician Brian Lackey, pictured above. The journey began when Doug McPhee purchased the Jasper Sports Centre and converted it to a soft goods store. He hired Karen Jacobs in 1985, and she took ownership in 2010.
“We’ve had wonderful times throughout the years,” he said of all his employees.
Both new and loyal customers attended the celebration, including Vicky Gulevich, who has shopped at Mountain Air since it opened in 1973. “I love the clothes and the personal service, the [employees know my name],” she said.
