Jasper Arena's last day of ice for the season will be Sunday, March 15.
The ice season has been cut short due to concerns over the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and recent announcements from Hockey Canada and CARA.
Hockey Canada announced March 12 that all Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities, including national and minor championships, were cancelled for the 2019-20 season.
That includes Jasper's Atom and PeeWee teams games this weekend.
Jasper Hockey League has also officially cancelled the remainder of its season and the semi-finals and Super Sunday finals this weekend will not go ahead.
Troy Mills, president of the JHL, said it was important for the JHL and its members to be responsible for all of the players and community members in town.
The scheduled Fire on Ice tournament will still take place this weekend and will be the last event in the arena this season.
The Government of Alberta said all gatherings of more than 250 people should be cancelled to limit the spread of COVID-19. It applies to sports events, conference and concerts but not places of worship, grocery stores, malls or airports.
The ban does apply to events with more than 50 people if some of the people will be international people, health care professionals or high-risk populations like seniors.
All schools remain open at this time, but no more than 250 people should be in the same room at any time. Additionally, it is recommended that sports and other extracurricular activities that involve physical contact be cancelled as an additional precaution.
