UPDATE: The Icefields Parkway from Parker Ridge to Saskatchewan Crossing and Maligne Road at Watchtower are closed due to increased avalanche risk and control work.

The anticipated reopening is late evening on Tuesday, March 29.

Temporary closures may occur for avalanche control starting Saturday on the Icefields Parkway from Athabasca Falls to Saskatchewan Crossing and on Maligne Road at Watchtower.

The risk of closures is expected to increase on Sunday and Monday.

Parks Canada warned how periods of warmer weather during the spring can sometimes cause wet snow to slide on road surfaces.

Spring melt conditions and rain have already resulted in several natural avalanches and road closures this past week.

Motorists are advised to consider adjusting travel plans to early morning or late evening.
