Jasper will be celebrating Seniors’ Week from June 5 to 11 with Alpine Summit hosting multiple events to honour seniors in the community.

Since 1986, Seniors’ Week has been recognized to celebrate and recognize the contributions seniors make to enhance the quality of life in Alberta.

The Pluckin’ Holler Boys will kick off Seniors’ Week in Jasper with a concert at Alpine Summit Seniors Lodge (509 Turret Street) on Monday, June 5 at 7 p.m.

“They are a bunch of fun lovin', good timin', harmony singin' guys with a love for bluegrass and traditional country music,” said Meghan Gifford, activity coordinator at Alpine Summit.

The band has been together for over ten years and is made up of Matt Grier (guitar/vocals), Keith Rempel (bass/vocals), Brennan Cameron (mandolin/accordion/vocals) and Elliot Thomas (banjo/fiddle/vocals).

Later in the week, a Children’s Silly Walk Parade will march past the lodge on Wednesday, June 7 at 1:10 p.m.

“Come and be entertained by the children of Ecole Jasper Elementary School, École Desrochers and the Wildflowers Childcare,” Gifford said.

Seating will be set up for community seniors, and the event is weather dependent.

Alpine Summit will also host a Dollar a Card Community Seniors BINGO Bonanza on Friday, June 9 at 3 p.m.

In addition, the Municipality of Jasper is hosting a tea on June 8 at 2 p.m. in the multi-purpose hall at the Activity Centre.

The tea will feature a selection of treats, coffee and tea from Glenda the Great.

All seniors are welcome to attend, and any questions on the tea can be directed to 780-852-3381.
