FIELD, B.C. – The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is investigating a train derailment near Field, British Columbia, on Thursday (May 1).
Terry Cunha, a spokesperson for Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway, said multiple cars of a CPKC train derailed early Thursday morning at approximately 4:30 a.m. about 12 kilometres west of Field in Yoho National Park.
"There were no injuries," he said.
"Eight empty auto rack rail cars used to carry finished vehicles are involved. No dangerous goods are involved."
CPKC crews were on site and more personnel and equipment responded to the scene to begin a clean-up early this morning.
As of late morning, Cunha said the line was cleared of the derailed cars and the railway line reopened after repairs and safety inspections.
"CPKC crews will remain on site to continue the removal of the involved cars," Cunha said.
"The cause of the derailment is under investigation."
TSB was quick to send a team of investigators following a derailment.
"The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence," according to a new release.
Parks Canada also attended.
The TSB is an independent agency that investigates air, marine, pipeline, and rail transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
