It is a snowy morning in Jasper National Park, and the snow is set to keep falling.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Highway 93, the Icefields Parkway, and the road is currently closed for avalanche control work.
Parks Canada closed the Icefields Parkway at 10 a.m. yesterday (Jan. 2) from Athabasca Falls to the Saskatchewan River Crossing. Its planned reopening time is Monday, Jan. 4 at 5 p.m.
According to Alberta 511, the day use area at Athabasca Falls is still accessible, but Environment Canada has advised motorists consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
According to the , heavy snowfall is continuing, but should taper off this morning after dropping another two to five centimetres of snow.
Along the Parkway, visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow.
Tomorrow's forecast, Jan. 4, shows a mainly cloudy day in Jasper with a 30 per cent chance of flurries late in the morning. The high will be plus two degrees Celsius with a wind chill of minus seven in the morning.
The evening will have periods of snow with a low of minus seven.
Tuesday, Jan. 5 is expected to have a mix of sun and cloud with 40 per cent chance of flurries and a high of plus one. Overnight will be cloudy with 40 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers and a low of zero.
On Wednesday, Jan. 6, Jasper is forecasted to be cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of flurries or rain showers with a high of eight degrees and a low of minus one.
