A winter storm warning has been issued for Jasper National Park today (Friday, Nov. 27).
Hazardous winter conditions are expected with strong winds over the region and heavy snow along the Icefields Parkway.
Heavy snow and blowing snow is forecast for today and tonight over Highway 93 (the Icefields Parkway) from Jasper to the Saskatchewan River Crossing.
Total snowfall accumulation by Saturday morning is expected to be 20 to 35 centimetres.
Strong winds are also expected over the region, with local gusts of 70 to 80 kilometres per hour possible in wind prone areas along the highway.
This, in combination with the falling snow, will generate low visibility in blowing snow.
Environment Canada recommends postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. If visibility is reduced while driving, slow down, watch for tail lights ahead and be prepared to stop.
