The Government of Alberta has lifted nearly all public health measures, which includes ending the provincial mask mandate as of March 1.
Masking is still mandated for AHS facilities, continuing care and public transit, and may also be required in municipalities with their own mask bylaws.
I am proud of our province and its people on reaching this milestone," said Premier Jason Kenney in a news release.
"The majority of Albertans came together to keep everyone safe, and this is the result we were working towards. The pressure on our health-care system and the people it serves is lessening and we can now move forward. As we safely get our lives back to normal, we can move forward toward Albertas great economic recovery.
In addition to removing the mask mandate, the following is now in effect:
- Remaining provincial school requirements (including cohorting) are removed.
- Screening prior to youth activities is no longer required.
- Capacity limits are lifted for all venues.
- Limits on social gatherings are removed.
- Restrictions on interactive activities, liquor service and operating hours are lifted.
- Mandatory work-from-home requirement is removed.
These steps are all part of step two of Alberta's reopening.
The province says the start of step three will be determined based on hospitalization rates continuing to trend downwards.
This stage would see the removal of COVID-19-specific measures in continuing care, AHS facilities and public transit, while mandatory isolation would become a recommendation only.
