This past weekend the Jasper Atom Bears hit the road again for their final two games of the season against the Leduc Roughnecks.
The first game was Saturday morning and as per usual the Bears started off painfully slow. No passing, no flow and a few one man shows, but luckily for the Bears the Roughnecks also couldn’t muster anything up. After one period it was a scoreless hockey game.
The Roughnecks got an early second period goal but Jasper responded with two of their own and after 40 minutes of hockey it was a tight 2 to 1 affair.
In the third the Bears started to pass the puck more and exploded like Mentos in a bottle of Coke. The Bears scored six goals including one from Sebastien Oeggerli who extended his goal scoring streak to four games.
Jasper won the game 8 to 1.
The next game wasn’t until Sunday morning so the Bears had a full day to get up to shenanigans. The Bears hit the pool and waterslide for a couple hours and then the team met up the Clip n’ Climb to climb on some real cool climbing walls. Later that evening the team had a taco party, some more swimming and a few of the parents hit up the local tavern to play the one arm bandits.
Jasper played the next day at 9:15 a .m. against the second Leduc team. The coaches were a little concerned about the state of the players. The team had about eight hours of exercise the day before and a lot of them were up late playing hide and seek in the halls of the Best Western.
Jasper knew they couldn’t have another slow start or else they could be in trouble, but they came out on fire in this game and popped four goals in the first including two from Luka Kahlina who was now in search of his hat-trick.
The onslaught continued in the second as Jasper was passing the puck and playing very unselfish hockey. The Bears got six goals in the second including a beauty goal from ‘Lights Out’ Louis Campeau who one-timed a saucer pass from Dustin Derksen.
When the third period hit, Jasper was rolling and put up another monster period.
Jaifred 'I thought the game was at 9:30' Mota started off the scoring in the third with a one-timer from Ethan Gibbons.
Carson Miller scored on a one-time slapshot in the slot when his cousin ‘Dusty’ found him
with a pass. (Check the goal out on my Ticktok account: DaveyDealz), ‘Lights Out’ Louis also got his second goal of the game and with two minutes left Luka Kahlina found the back of the net to get his hat-trick, the final score Jasper 16, Leduc 3.
Jasper finished first place in their division and are now getting ready to make a deep playoff run. Go Bears!
