Lesleigh Campbell - Special to the 51°µÍø
The Jasper PeeWee Bears opened up their barn doors for the Mayerthorpe Mustangs this past Saturday.
The first period of this game was tightly contested.
Callum Campbell got the first goal early on, off a pass from Jackson Irwin.
And then both teams played fairly evenly as the clock ticked down.
Eventually, Mayerthorpe tied it up with three minutes remaining in the period and then Joshua Doyle gave Jasper the upper hand, assisted by Carson Campbell and Drew Kovacs to end the first.
Galloping into the second period, the Mustangs quickly buried another one to tie it up again.
But the Bears were getting hungry by now and Mustangs were on the menu. Â
Perhaps the hungriest of all, Jackson Irwin scored back to back goals with Carson Campbell getting the helper on the 4 to 2 goal.
The Bears skipped dessert in the third period and instead went straight to the dance, "and a five, six, seven, eight".
Goaltender Brady Campbell kept the door shut for the rest of the game while Irwin sniped two more, finishing up his hat-trick.
Kovacs also buried one and Casey Peel finished it all off, assisted by Callum Campbell.
The final score was 8 to 2 for the Bears, leaving the Mustangs in their tracks.
The PeeWee's coaches have recently started choosing a player at the end of each game who stood out with their hard work and determination.
This player is named "The Real Deal" and winners to date were: Brady Campbell, Casey Peel, Callum Campbell, Paige Hugie, Bode Hofhuis, and Austin Schmidt.
"The Real Deal" for this game was Jackson Irwin.
The Bears have next weekend off to prepare for their upcoming home tournament.
January 31 to February 2 will be an exciting weekend of hockey to come and watch.
There will be an amazing raffle table and 50/50 to be won.
