Winter’s chill doesn’t stand a chance against an evening of Burlesque, dance, and barely-contained debauchery—all in good taste, of course. Join the Jasper Pride Festival Society to celebrate the launch of the 11th Annual Jasper Pride at 4 Peaks Nightclub on January 18.
Featuring performer Daisy DeVille, the evening will be a high-intensity, rhinestone-riddled extravaganza with sassy stage personas sure to make you sweat. Daisy DeVille spoke with The 51’s Nicolle Hodges about the upcoming show.
51: Daisy DeVille! What is the reason behind this name choice?
Daisy: When I was in high school, I used to wear these plastic daisies in my hair all the time. People would call me "that Daisy girl", and then eventually shortened it to Daisy. Fast forward to my Burlesque debut, I was clicking through one of those online name generators and DeVille came up. I paired it with Daisy, said it out loud, and it was a done deal. I love the juxtaposition and I think it really speaks to my stage persona.
Fitz: What's the most interesting thing you have learned recently?
Daisy: That octopuses can't climb astroturf.
Fitz: What is something you know to be true about yourself that you can always count on?
Daisy: I'm always honest and I think I can do everything faster than I actually can.
Fitz: Winter can be rough. What makes ‘Jasper in January’ perfectly timed?
Daisy: It's bitterly cold everywhere right now so why wouldn't you choose to spend it surrounded by breathtaking beauty?
Fitz: Better yet, why is Burlesque in January (or any time of year, really) a good idea?
Daisy: How can you go wrong with empowered bodies exercising their agency while covered in rhinestones (and not much else)?
Fitz: What is something you love about the show that you suspect other people will love too?
Daisy: The vibrancy! In stage personas, costumes, concepts, music—you will have the absolute best time.
