Busking licenses will soon be available for musicians to perform in Jasper.

Habitat for the Arts will be handling the licenses again - and this year the process for placing artists will be slightly different.

For 2020, Habitat will compile a list of artists interested in busking in Jasper into a directory to allow for a simplistic booking format for connecting merchants and buskers.

Marriane Garrah, director of Habitat, suggested this change because last summer merchants and visitors conflicted with residents in opposition to one busker.

There is a strong desire by some merchants to determine the type of artist performing in proximity to their business location, she said in her proposal to council.

As a proposed solution, we suggest compiling a directory of artists detailing the type of performance they will offer. This directory would allow business owners to choose the artists who perform in the public spaces near their businesses.

Busking is open in Jasper from June to September. Licenses cost $50 for the year or $10 per day. Register by emailing [email protected].

A Porch Concert is taking place in Jasper on May 30 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Local musicians will play from their own porches for Jasperites to enjoy from a safe distance.

Updated May 22:

The busking locations pictured below are open to all licensed buskers.

The Tim Hortons location is using the directory of buskers to approve on days they wish to have have buskers.

Busking hours are 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
