Pikachu, rock stars, steam punks and David Bowie were sliding along Jasper ice this weekend at the curling clubs first Halloween Boospiel.

Eight teams of costumed Jasperites took part in the open bonspiel, playing three games each.

The bonspiel followed three nights of Learn to Curl last week which drew in about 20 new curlers each night, and some of those took part in the tournament.

Hilary Olson, executive member and acting secretary of Jasper Curling Club, said: It was great. We had an awesome turnout and I think everybody had a lot of fun.

The winning team was led by Rob Hubick and the winners of the B final were team Leochko.

Olson said the club was really happy with how the day turned out and she hopes it will be a new annual event.

We thought this would be a fun way to kick off the season, said Olson.

We would like to grow it every year so we could get out of town curlers too.

Jasper Curling Club will hold another Learn to Curl this fall and may hold another funspiel before Christmas.

It was nice to see some new curlers out there and try it, said Olson.

It is an easy sport to pick up, you dont have to be amazing at the start.

You play in a team of four and can have an experienced player who can train you as you go.

And the annual mens, womens and mixed bonspiels are scheduled for February, March and April next year.
