Gerald Soroka has been voted our new MP. Yellowhead has held onto its Conservative seat.

Yellowhead, a large riding that stretches as far as Grande Cache, Rocky Mountain House and Caroline, has been a Conservative riding for 19 years.

Soroka said in a press release: "Thank you from newly elected Member of Parliament Gerald Soroka.

"Now the federal election for Canada has concluded, and I have the privilege of serving as your Member of Parliament, I would like to express my appreciation and thanks to all those residents who placed their trust and faith in me to lead the constituency in a positive direction.

"I would also like to thank all the candidates who ran in this election for making it a positive challenge and one that gave the residents a chance to voice their concerns.

"It is through this participation that Yellowhead will continue to excel and be a vibrant community of choice."

The seat was held by Conservative MP Jim Eglinski from 2014, but he did not seek reelection in the 2019 federal election.

Soroka campaigned across the riding and won 82 per cent of the Yellowhead vote.

NDP candidate Kristine Bowman came in second with seven per cent and Liberal Jeremy Hoefsloot was third with five per cent.

Douglas Galavan from the People's Party picked up three per cent of the votes, Angelena Satdeo from the Green Party had two per cent, Libertarian Cory Lystang had 0.5 per cent, and Gordon Francey from the Veterans Coalition Party had 0.2 per cent.
