The gravitational pull of the Dark Sky Festival was strong this weekend, with Jasperites keen to explore the wonders of space and science.

It was the final few days of the annual festival and a universal range of activities were put on.

Families were entertained by Telus World of Science’s Over the Moon event at the high school Saturday, with science demonstrations, a talking robot, an inflatable planetarium and astronaut costumes.

And rockets were launched from Centennial Park with Edmonton Rocketry Club.

Science met music at Jay Ingram and the Beaker Band’s performance, Lunacy.

Ingram, former host of the television show Daily Planet, intertwined information and visuals about the moon and our attraction to it, with musical interludes from his five-piece band.

Keynote speaker for this year’s Dark Sky Festival was Radiolab host Jad Abumrad.

Other speakers included astronaut Robert Thirsk, scientist-astronaut candidate Shawna Pandya, founder of Delalune Space Rob Meyerson, president of Telus World of Science Alan Nursall, science journalists Bob McDonald and Nick Pope, astronomer Seth Shostak and aerospace engineer Philip Ferguson.
